Logan and the piano (2/26/09)

Piano

Logan is playing the piano right now, and it sounds wonderful! It has been so long since he has sat down to play. Jim is in the basement working on his computer. He told Brett to go up and see who was playing, because it sounded so good. Brett came up and said, "Oh, that's you." I asked him who he thought it was. Katherine is a beginner, and it certainly wasn't me! I'll try to take a video and post it later.

We had a long weekend helping at the tournament and cheering on our son, Brett, and our nephew, Cyrus. Jim did a great job as the announcer! He is very good at it, and the fans love to hear him. It was so nice having many relatives come and watch the boys.

Katherine's Special Day

For Christmas, Uncle Latif & Aunt Ruth gave each child a hand-made gift certificate good for one day with them. They all have a different month. Katherine's month was February. We picked Sunday, February 22nd as her day. Aunt Ruth got Katherine after church. They had a breakfast-type lunch at their house. Afterwards, they went on a scavenger hunt in downtown Milwaukee. There was a list of objects to find, and then a picture was taken when the object was found. It was cold, but Katherine had a wonderful time! Katherine got a couple books at Borders. Uncle Latif brought Katherine home after dinner out at an Italian restaurant. Thank you, Latif & Ruth, for giving Katherine a special day!

Update on our special day

Update on yesterday's activities...I wrote that Jim & I were probably not doing anything special. I was wrong (and admit it)! I had supper ready and left to get Logan from school. When we came back, there were candles lit on the table, roses in a vase, and the lights dimmed. After supper, Jim took my hand and we danced in the living room. Of course, Katherine quickly got between us. It was a lovely evening!

This weekend is Mount Olive's 5/6 Grade Boys Basketball Tournament. Brett's team plays at 11:10 A.M. on Saturday. Cyrus' team plays at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday. If you're in the area, you are all welcome to watch the cousins play. I'll be working in the concession stand, and Jim will be announcing games.

Elm Grove BB Tourney and MLHS Dinner TheaterMonday

What a weekend!

Brett and the 5/6 grade boys' basketball team were in the Elm Grove Lutheran "Spirit" Basketball Tournament. The boys lost Thursday night. They won decidedly Saturday afternoon, which put them in the Consolation Championship game Sunday at 1:10 P.M. It was a close game. Brett scored two points (his usual) and did great on defense! The team was down 4-11 at half (which is what they were winning by on Thursday) and came back to win 27-26. The boys did a great job!

Logan (our newspaper delivery boy) was busy with MLHS's dinner theater, Fawlty Towers. I helped in the kitchen on Friday and Sunday. Saturday, Jim & I got to sit down as parents. Jim's parents joined us for dinner. Bedull came for the performance. Latif came on Sunday. It was nice having family there to support Logan.

During the intermission, there was a "deal or no deal" game. There were 12 gift bags available for $10.00 each. Jim gave Katherine the money to play. She was the only child to participate. She won the "grand" prize: free night stay at the Lake Ripley Lodge Bed & Breakfast in Cambridge, WI. She is disappointed that she will not be going. We told her we would make it up somehow.

Logan stayed for the cast pool party after the last performance. I think he had a good time, which makes Jim & I happy.

20 years ago today Jim & I had our first date. He, purposefully, did not ask me out on Valentine's Day. Not the best day for a first date. We went to see the movie, Beaches. What were we thinking?! People were openly weeping. I can tell you that being with him was wonderful. What are we doing to commemorate such a great day? He has a faculty meeting after school. Katherine has her piano lesson. One of us has to get Logan when "tear down" is done. At 7:15, we take Logan to the high school for Sophomore registration. It shouldn't take long. He has his classes picked out. Hopefully we can watch 24 together.

Brett and Katherine did not have school today. They got to play with Ella at the Rupe's house, which was a nice change for them. It gets boring being home alone.

Carolyn Jean Krug Claas

Sunday, February 1, 2009, Carolyn Claas, one of my sister's best friends, died. She was 36 years old. Her Dad was pastor at Hope and is now at St. Paul's-Oconomowoc. I got out of work on Monday to attend the funeral. It was so sad! I pray that the Lord will give the Krug family strength and peace. I, also, pray that my sister would turn to the Lord for strength. I know it has been hard for her. This photo was taken in January 2004 at Ali's birthday party. Carolyn was Ali's godmother.

Today is Peter's birthday. Happy Birthday, Peter!

This is Tech Week at MLHS. Logan has rehearsals every night to prepare for this weekend's Dinner Theater. Jim is at the high school making supper for the kids...chicken tenders and macaroni and cheese. I'll be dropping off a dessert when I take Logan back in a 1/2 hour.

Logan hasn't been feeling well, so I made him take a nap after school. He rested for a bit. He is happy that his costume consists of a hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

Brett had a basketball game at Beautiful Savior Lutheran School-Waukesha yesterday. With five minutes left before game time...we had no coach. I got the boys ready and started five of them. The coach, who got lost getting there, came to my rescue a few minutes later. Mount Olive won by a large margin with Brett scoring four points. Ramone, who has some physical limitations, was able to get some rebounds and assists. He plays more and more, and the team cheers him on.

It's so good to see!

Last Saturday, Jim and the boys went to the Buchmeyers to play on the Nintendo Wii and join them for supper. They had a lot of fun playing Rayman Raving Rabbits TV Party. I don't know who had more fun--Mrs. Buchmeyer or Anna.

Katherine and I spent the evening with Mrs. Wangerin, Pastor Wangerin, and his brother, Paul.

It was such a beautiful day, the three of us took a drive down by the lake. We wanted to take Mrs. Wangerin to Trader Joe's, but it was terribly crowded. So we drove around and wound our way down Beach Drive. The view of Lake Michigan and the sky was breath-taking.

When we got back, Mrs. Wangerin made supper while the rest of us played on the Wii. Actually, Pastor and I watched Katherine beat Paul at MLB Power Pros 2008 (Logan was very jealous!) and the shooting gallery. We had a simple supper of sloppy joes, Fritos, a fruit salad, and turtle brownies for dessert. I can not imagine what Mrs. Wangerin thought of the four people sitting at her table, with a white tablecloth, making a mess. I would like to say it was her fault for having a white tablecloth on the table when we were having sloppy joes, but I can not blame her for our sloppy eating. After supper, Paul played the piano for us. All I have to say is, amazing!! Paul has never had lessons. He learned on his own and plays with such feeling. Katherine joined him for Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

Then Pastor watched as the rest of us went bowling on the Nintendo Wii. Mrs. Wangerin beat us all. I could not get a strike. Before Katherine and I left, we looked at pictures of Pastor's trips to Colorado and Austria...oh, the mountains!

Scheuer update

Family Update...

Ok, it's been a long time since our last post...Sorry! Winter is a busy season for Scheuer activities. Brett plays on the 5/6 grade boys basketball team at Mount Olive. He is a great team player, so much so that he rarely shoots the ball. He gets a lot of assists! Brett did have two points in yesterday's game vs. Hales Corners. He gets rebounds and steals with his long arms and large hands.

Logan has been busy with rehearsals for Milwaukee Lutheran's dinner theater, Fawlty Towers.

Jim & I will be attending the Saturday evening performance. The gymnasium will be transformed into a British pub. The hallway will look like a hotel lobby. It all sounds so fun...I am really looking forward to it!

Logan played in the pep band twice this past week for basketball games. The whole family went to watch the Freshmen girls play last night. Two of the girls are from Mount Olive. The kids had friends to hang out with, and Jim & I got to sit with friends. Unfortunately, MLHS lost to Germantown H.S.

We got Logan's report card in the mail this morning. He made the Honor Roll for the first semester of his first year in high school. We are proud of Logan! He told us that he can do better, and we are looking forward to seeing how well he does the rest of the year.

The boys went to Saturday Morning Band at MLHS, while Katherine went to the Fieldhouse for Roundballers. It is a 3/4 grade basketball camp. I stayed to watch her for the hour. She is really good! She liked playing with the varsity girls and boys.

Brett has a friend over. He and Ramone are downstairs playing on the Wii. We'll make home-made pizza later, which is always a big hit! Katherine and I are going to Mayfair with Lisa and Ella. Katherine has gift cards to use at Barnes & Noble and Build-a-Bear.

Time to go out and enjoy the sun!
